Last Minute End of Trapping Season Reminders
Posted on February 17 2020
With trapping coming to an overall end next Sunday, other than beaver, it’s important to remind those who trap that gathered pelts must be either dried, cured, or tanned within ten days of the end of the season. In addition, it is unlawful to possess any fur-bearers or fur-bearer parts that were unlawfully taken, transported, imported, exported, or improperly tagged. Also, any furs that are to be exported out of the state must have a shipping tag properly attached, you can get these from the game commission offices and licensed fur dealers. Another important reminder is that imported furs must also be properly tagged within their origin states guidelines.
Another thing we are always asked about and reminding our trappers is that in order to use cable restraints you must be certified to do so. You can get this certification by either scheduling a class with the game commission or by going online to https://www.hunter-ed.com/pennsylvania-cable-device/ and completing the course online. Another thing to look out for with the end of the season approaching is the state of your traps. Are they working as they should? Are they still reliable? Are they safe to use? If you’ve answered no to any of these questions go ahead and come down to the store to get what you need for the next trapping season! We hope everyone had a great Trapping Season!
